Project Introduction

Dose of Decay was a group project that I had the opportunity to work on during my time at Staffordshire University. This project took place during a module called Collaborative Games Development, which involved a team made up of soon-to-be graduates and second-year students. The soon-to-be graduates were designated the seniors of the project, within an industry-style hierarchy to make the game.

Main Menu Wireframe

As I was primarily taking the role of project lead, I wanted to create a simple menu that would allow the player to jump straight into action with this roguelike boss rush game. So the menu was centred on the left hand side of the screen displaying a few options.

Project Reflection

Overall, this experience was amazing as I was able to gain leadership experience, improve my verbal and written communication, and also learn aspects of project management. Even though the project had 9 weeks of production, what the team achieved within that period of time was a polished vertical slice with amazing in-house assets and animations.

Options Wireframe

I also kept the options menu quite simple with audio, a controls panel, and a graphics setting that was only capping the frame rate.

HUD Wireframe

The HUD for this game went through a variety of changes but always the same layout, the only different was were the special abilities would be placed and as a team and with my final say we chose to take from the likes of hero shooters such as Valorant and Overwatch.
